From our ARC Charities

In the months of February & March we will be having two drives at once. Each of these drives has a cap of 30 per month.

The first is the Animals drive. You may donate to Animal Shelters/adoption centers or Animal Rescue organizations.Acceptable items are Food, grooming supplies, pet toys, flea collars, flea &/or tick shampoo, pet beds, food & water bowls. All items will be worth 2 Regional prestige.

The second is the Blood drive.

You can earn 25 Regional prestige for making a blood donation. You will only receive Regional prestige for a blood donation once during the entire drive.

You can volunteer your time at the Red Cross, local blood bank or hospital/clinic at the rate of 5 Regional prestige per full hour volunteered.

You may also earn 10 Regional prestige by providing transportation for 2 or more members (remember to list their names & cam #'s) who donate blood, but not in the same month that you have made a blood donation.

Please list participation for this drive under a separate section titled Animals & Blood on the monthly Domain or Chapter Coordinators Report under Regional Prestige Recommendations for the Month.

Do not include prestige totals. These will be determined by the GL Region Charity office.

From your ADC Charities: If you give to a shelter, bring me a receipt at game. If for whatever reason, I'm not at game, give the receipt to a coordinator.

I really suggest you call the shelter and find out what they need most. Information about our local shelter can be found at: http://www.hatsweb.org/AdoptDogs.htm --and maybe you'll find a friend, too.

If you give blood, keep that piece of paper that they give you and/or the "I Gave Blood Today" sticker and give it to me at the Domain Meeting or Game. Or if you lose that, show me your donation wound. :)

Find the blood drive closest to you here: https://www.givelife.org

...and yes, I'm going to ask about giving Prestige to the "I tried!" people.

Past Projects

2007 Holiday National Charity Blood Drive

When: The drive begins on December 1st 2007 and ends on January 15th 2008.

Who: This drive to open to all current US Members in good standing

How: Members are free to donate to any recognized reputable blood collection organization (American Red Cross, BloodNet, HeathSouth, for a few examples.) that is convenient to them or their local organizational unit (chapter/domain). This drive encompasses whole blood and partial blood donations. Partial blood donation refers to aphaeresis, i.e. plasma or platelets. As always monetary compensation must be refused or donated to charity in order to receive the prestige award.

The member is required to submit proof to their local coordinator as to: the date of the donation, what was donated (whole blood, plasma, or platelets), and the organization to whom it was donated. All blood collection centers provide the donor with some paperwork to take with them, this will fulfill the documentation requirement nicely. The local coordinator should compile all information into a single separate report to their Regional Coordinator due no later than January 15th. (Yes, you can wait until then to report them all at once). The report format must be:

Date of Donation Member Name Cam Number Donation Organization

For Example

12-7-07 Bob Smith US200202000 Whole Blood American Red Cross
12-11-07 Mary Jones US200701000 Platelets HeathSouth

The Regional Coordinators will collect all of the local reports into one big regional summary and send to me, and I’m aiming for these awards to be listed in my report released at the end of January. These awards will be awarded specific to the month of December under Community Service. All standard prestige guidelines for Blood Donations and the Community Service Category are in effect.

 FAQ1 – I just donated, do I loose out?
No, even though the awards will be awarded for the month of December, the extra 2 weeks into January were included to allow members that may have just donated to still be able to participate. This will allow for the required waiting period between whole blood donations to elapse.
FAQ2 - Can I donate Platelets more than once during the drive and receive prestige for both?

Yes, per the Camarilla Council Resolution 20051006-01-NC, a member may receive prestige for donating blood up to twice in any given month. The award amounts will be the same for Platelets, Plasma, or Whole Blood.

FAQ3 – I can’t donate because of Dange Fever concerns, what about me?
Members that can not donate, for any reason, are encouraged to be involved from the aspect of helping to transport members to blood centers (10 per trip, max of 20 for the month), or help out at the donation sites by the volunteering of time. These activities will also be worth national prestige.
FQA4 – Sheesh, a blood drive? What about something new?
New Charity activities are under consideration at this very moment, so be watchful. Those members that know me personally know that I spent several years in law enforcement, as well as several years in the medical field. At this time of year, community resources are stretched extremely thin, something that I have witnessed first hand.

Winter Warm Up Regional Drive

From the ARC Charities: After a successful School Supply Drive I would like to announce that we will be starting our Annual Winter Warm Up Drive for 2007 beginning on November 1 and ending on December 31. Heating our homes is more costly each year, so now more then ever people are going to need warm clothes and blankets for winter. Lets help out those in need and give away any of the items on the list below that could help people that are less fortunate than we are keep warm this winter. So start rummaging through your closets to see if you have any of items below. If you have not worn it at all last winter give it to a place near you that will be able to give it to people who so desperately need it!!!!

The prestige will be broken down by the following:

  • Winter jackets/coats, snowsuits, or a blanket at 10 regional each
  • A pair of winter boots, ski pants, hoodies, sweat shirts/pants or sweaters- 5 regional each
  • A pair of gloves/mittens, scarves, earmuffs, and hats - 3 regional each. A Max of 30 each month.

Only the items listed above will be eligible for Regional Prestige in this drive!

All donations will be listed in a separate section titled Winter Warm Up on the monthly Domain or Chapter Coordinators Report under Regional Prestige Recommendations for the Month.

The format will be as followed.

Name Cam Number Items Donated Where items went.

Joe Cam US12345861 2 Jackets Salvation Army

Members should bring donations to their Domain or Chapter Coordinators where they will be logged and then donated to a general site. If a member is in a situation where they cannot get to meeting to drop of the item, that member can donate the item and submit to the coordinator a receipt from the charitable organization. That donation will then be listed on the Report as normal.

Please do not include a total of prestige recommended. Final award determination will be made by the GL Regional Charity Staff and listed in the RC’s report.

So good luck and I hope that you all find clothes to help those in need.

  • Regional School Supply Drive August 1, 2007 to September 30, 2007

"With most states cutting school budgets, the burden of getting standard school supplies has fallen on the shoulders of the teachers. Every school season Teachers provide out of their own pocket what they can for their students. This drive is to help those teachers and schools provide standard school supplies for their students. This drive is open to donations to your local K-8 elementary or middle school as well as the Salvation Army and other charitable organizations." --Heidi "Kassi" King-Green US2002021108, GLARC-Charity

  • Regional Food Drive

Hate peas? Got a few cans? A few boxes of Mac 'n Cheese? Bring them to game.

Our economy is the worst in the nation. But the most important part about charity, about contributing to our community--to our world--is doing what we can with what we have.

The May/June Regional Charity Drive is awarding:
- 5 Regional prestige points for boxed, bagged, bottled and dry food items like Oatmeal, Cereals, Pasta, Mac and Cheese, Peanut Butter, Applesauce, non-perishable Juices, etcetera.
- 3 Regional prestige points for canned goods, regardless of size.

If you can't donate, there's another way you can get in on this opportunity. Remember the Trick-or-Treat event in October? Yeah, we want to do that again. June 27, 6pm, meet at Powers Hall.

We'll hit Copper Beech Apartments, then go to another complex if we have time. Costumes optional. ;) Hit me with an e-mail if you're interested. It's an easy way to max out your Community Service cap.

Tips:
- There's usually a few things you won't eat in the bottom of your pantry
- Kroger always has 10 for $10 deals on canned goods
- Bags of pasta and cereal are cheap and much desired by food pantries
- Don't forget canned tuna! It's a great source of protein and nutrients

If you're too broke to donate, you can still get in on this by coming to our last Collection Drive. Meet on Wednesday, June 27th at 5pm in the Powers Parking Lot. Please RSVP so I can figure out how many drivers we'll need.
